Tower Family Healthcare commitment to following GMMMG Guidance for 7-day prescriptions
Pharmacies are reminded that prescribers will make clinical decisions regarding the treatment length and interval of a prescription based on clinical need, and not on the method of dispensing.
7-day prescriptions are for patients who need their medicine supplying weekly for clinical and safety reasons. Prescribers at the Practice will not routinely provide 7-day prescriptions for patients who receive their medication in a compliance aid at the pharmacy request.
Pharmacies must assess the patient requesting multi-compartment compliance aids (MCAs) or ’dosettes’ to determine if they qualify for a reasonable adjustment under the Equality Act 2010 due to disability. Payment is made to the pharmacy under the pharmacy contract to cover the costs in materials and staff time for this. Pharmacies may not charge patients for this adjustment.
Other adjustments that may be suitable include:
- reminder charts
- non-child-resistant closures
- large font labels
- alarms and apps
- timed dispensers via social services
