The NHS in Greater Manchester is encouraging patients to request their own medication directly from their GP Practice.
From September 2024, Community Pharmacies are only able to provide support to order medication on behalf of patients that the Practice and Pharmacy have reviewed as being clinically vulnerable.
Patients are encouraged to order their medication directly from the Practice preferably via the NHS App, though there are other ways to order as described below.
This change gives patients better control over the ordering of their own medication when they need it and will hopefully avoid medicines waste.
Ordering medication directly from the Practice
Many patients are already using the NHS App (or access the same services via the internet by logging in through the NHS website) as a safe and easy way to order their regular medication.
Through the NHS App patients can also access a range of other services including booking some types of appointments at their Practice and viewing their GP health record.
If using the NHS App or the NHS website is not possible, patients can still request their medication by repeat slip or on paper which can be dropped into the prescription box located within our reception areas.
They can also contact us by phone; however, we prefer not to take requests over the phone due to the risk of errors, and to ensure our phone lines remain available for urgent incoming calls.
Now is a great time to find out what the NHS App has to offer.
- Thank you to all our patients for allowing at least two working days for requests to be processed. Nominated Pharmacies will also need time to make up the prescription after we have issued it.
- Please try to order all of your required medications at the same time.
